All youth enrichment classes are taught by Rabbi Eric in small group settings at the KCVC headquarters located at the First Presbyterian Church of Encino. FPCE has been an invaluable partner, offering use of its spaces including: a KCVC dedicated office and meeting/learning room where classes take place; a recently renovated social hall with an open courtyard and a commercial kitchen that is perfect for special events including B’nai Mitzvah parties of up to 150 persons; a large beautiful sanctuary for High Holy Days services and B’nai Mitzvah ceremonies, and; a more intimate renovated space often used for Shabbat services and smaller events.

The KCVC Enrichment Program strives to Embrace, Engage and Educate its students. Rabbi Eric will teach your child(ren) skills and facts, but his approach is about so much more than that. He focuses on Jewish values most of all to help youth understand that as Jews we believe we are partners with God, that each person is created b’tzelem Elohim (in the Image of God), that Judaism teaches us there is a purpose to our lives, and that each of us has a responsibility to leave the world better a place.

Furthermore, the Rabbi also works to create a sense of community by encouraging students to share the enrichment experience with their class friends via participatory discussions. Parents are encouraged to be partners in the process by making student attendance a priority and ensuring their children remain in class the entire session. Students have opportunities to create special projects that are shared with family and friends at Shabbat services. Past projects have included making their own tallit, speaking about their cultural and spiritual family heritage and heroes, and participating in community service projects.

Bar and Bat Mitzvah students have access to personal tutoring by Rabbi Eric six months prior to their ceremony to ensure confidence and preparation for their special day. Families planning a Bar or Bat Mitzvah ceremony have the option to hold them at KCVC or at another site of their choosing. The Rabbi and the Cantor will work with your family to personalize the ceremony and make it a true reflection of the uniqueness of your child.
